Historic Village in Ocean View’s Incredible Success from Do More 24 Delaware

Historic Village in Ocean View first opened its doors in 2008. It is a small village with four buildings, housing a plethora of history of Ocean View, Delaware. One of the buildings even dates back to the 1860s. Not many know of the history of the surrounding area and are pleasantly surprised when stumbling upon the Historic Village. Barbara Slavin, President of the nonprofit discussed with us the ways in which Spur Impact has had an impact. With Spur Impact’s help, they have been able to make improvements that they would not have been able to do otherwise.

Do More 24 Delaware is Delaware’s largest giving day! The event uses the Delaware Gives™ online platform to facilitate donations; this allows nonprofits and donors to track how much is raised over the 24 hour giving day. “We have loved participating in DoMore24. We’re aware of how much of an impact it can have,” commented Slavin. When participating, they surpassed their dollar goal and had the highest number of donors. Slavin mentioned that given the smaller nature of the organization, they had not expected this but were thrilled!

The donations gave them the opportunity to do things they would not have been able to do otherwise. For example, they have been able to renovate the roof of a historical replica. Since the chicken industry was founded in that area, the replica was of a house that held chickens! (The original can be found in the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover, Delaware.)

The Historic Village in Ocean View is grateful for the support they have received. “We feel very fortunate to have what we do have,” added Slavin. Spur Impact is glad to provide nonprofits in Delaware with invaluable opportunities to propel them forward!
