Building Stronger Communities: The Impact of Do More 24 DE and Spur Impact on the Latin American Community Center
We recently met with Kelly Scanlan, Director of Development and Communications of the Latin American Community Center in Wilmington, Delaware to discuss the ways in which Do More 24 DE has made a positive difference. The Latin American Community Center works to empower the latin community through education, advocacy, partnerships, and exceptional services, in the hopes of creating a thriving latino community.
Do More 24 DE gives organizations the opportunity to spread awareness for their cause and potentially gain new donors. Leading up to the event, a marketing toolkit, with premade social media graphics and writing templates, is shared with nonprofits. “Having material to use and upload is really helpful, especially when we may be too busy to prioritize creating our own content,” noted Scanlan.
Since participating in Do More 24 DE, the Latin American Community Center’s social media has nearly doubled. Their reach, overall, has increased and they have been able to attract new donors, even outside of the event. This has given them the opportunity to build new spaces, such as an early learning center.
Other great resources for Scanlan have been the Spur Impact team, the DE Gives website, and other professional development events. Not only has receiving help from the Spur Impact team been wonderful for Scanlan, but seeing the ways in which they help facilitate growth for nonprofits in the state has greatly encouraged her. Their genuine desire to provide support is evident in the networking opportunities and events planned, like Do More 24 DE.
Even once Do More 24 DE is over, donors can still give via the DE Gives website. Additionally, nonprofits have the ability to create individual fundraisers, in which they can create their own page to share with their network. “Overall, it’s an easy way for people to search for causes they care about and donate,” mentioned Scanlan.
“Connecting with Spur Impact has been invaluable. The webinars are incredibly helpful, especially for new staff. The Emerging Leaders Community has been great for my professional development and our fundraising and marketing efforts have improved!” she concluded.
