Helping Spur Impact at Selbyville Public Library with Do More 24 Delaware
Kelly Kline, director of Selbyville Public Library, sat with us to share some of the ways in which Spur Impact has made a positive impact. The Selbyville Library has been a part of Delaware’s Giving Day, Do More 24 Delaware, since 2021. Being a part of Do More 24 Delaware gave them opportunities to not only fundraise, but to transition to an online space. Additionally, being connected to Spur Impact has provided a valuable support system.
The Selbyville Public Library is nearly 100 years old! Throughout its existence, it has moved from a club room, to a church basement, to Senator Townsend’s house, and finally, to a brand new facility this fall. Throughout these changes, it has continued to serve the community by providing library services, information resources, and programs.
When participating in Do More 24 DE, the Selbyville Public Library raised over their goal! When asked if Kline was anticipating this outcome she said, “Yes and no! We didn’t know what amounts would be given. It ended up energizing the rest of our donor base to be excited to give!” Donations help with operating costs, the development of programs, and keeping the services free.
Participants often mention that Do More 24 DE acts as a catalyst in creating an online presence. This rings true for Selbyville Public Library. “The event challenged us to develop an online identity,” mentioned Kline. “It’s necessary to be able to tell your story and spread your message online. Having online reach is needed to be successful,” she added. With its online presence, the Selbyville Public Library has modernized; people have a way to give online that isn’t cost prohibitive for the library.
Another great benefit for Kline has been the ability to connect with the team. “The team is very responsive and incredibly supportive. It’s nice to know that they are behind us,” she commented. “We can bounce ideas off of them and get suggestions for Do More 24 DE. They are so willing to help out!” she concluded.
Spur Impact is glad to have played a role in helping the library grow.
