Adam Morgan Reflects on His Journey with Spur Impact: Founding Board Member Shares the Value of Nonprofit Service
We recently met with Adam Morgan, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of MVP Advisors Nonprofit Consulting, and reflected on his time spent as a Spur Impact board member. In 2018, he acted as one of the founding members of Spur Impact! Ever since, he has served on the board in various positions, such as treasurer and president. In September, he finished his last term on the nomination committee; although he has parted ways, his impact on Spur Impact will remain and the lessons learned from this experience will remain with him.
As mentioned, Morgan existed amongst the initial group members of those who started Spur Impact. “We thought it would be good for Delaware to have something that supported young professionals and engaged them in their communities and careers,” explained Morgan. The board developed as a way to develop strategy, achieve goals, and stay accountable. Over the years, the board has seen different board members come and go and risks fail and succeed. “We always wanted to be an organization that is a risk taker. Since its inception, we have tried new things, failed, and learned. Now, our processes are better versions of the ones before,” commented Morgan.
Considering his career as a nonprofit consultant, Morgan was already well-versed in the nonprofit sector. However, serving on Spur Impact’s board allowed him to further extend his experience with creating bylaws, recruiting new board members, and conversing with grant funders. Additionally, being a part of the board has given him an opportunity to grow his nonprofit network in Delaware. Not only have his professional connections extended, but he has created new memories and friendships at board retreats and Mill Summit conferences. When asked about the benefits of joining a nonprofit’s board, Morgan stated, “If you’re passionate about the mission of a nonprofit and want to contribute to it, joining its board can be a great way to gain fulfillment, serve others and the community, and meet other people.”
Since Morgan’s initial contact with Charlie Vincent, Executive Director of Spur Impact, he has contributed to a cause that has been transformative for countless professionals and organizations. Thanks to his expertise and leadership, Spur Impact stands where it is today. “I have enjoyed my time with Spur Impact. It has been great to work alongside Charlie, Jenn, and Avery and help them move the organization, community, and state forward,” concluded Morgan.
