Recently, Andy was awarded an Impact Award for fostering community engagement and inclusivity within the arts by spearheading initiatives that bring the arts to underserved populations. We would like to share some of his responses given when discussing more of his background in the industry.

Q: Can you introduce yourself?

A: I am the Marketing and Communications Program Officer at the Delaware Division of the Arts. More information can be found here: arts.delaware.gov

Q: What is the best career advice you ever received?

A: Find a workplace where learning from your failures is encouraged, not punished.

Q: What compelled you to enter your field?

A: Starting as a musical theater actor, I was looking for opportunities where I could be involved in the Arts in a more standard administrative role.

Q: What’s one industry-specific thing you wish you knew when you started?

A: Not everyone wants to see every show you produce, and that's ok.  Let them create their own journey to a deeper relationship with your organization.

Q: What trends do you see dramatically influencing the work in your industry?

A: There has been a significant exodus of creative talent post-COVID in search of more consistent pay opportunities. In the next few years we will see if they return.

Q: What’s a common myth about your industry/job?

A: A common myth is that creating art is easy.
