ELC Member Spotlight: Christopher Malmstrom

This month, we had the opportunity to meet with Christopher Malmstrom, a Financial Advisor at Point to Point Wealth Planning, and learn more about his experience working with Spur Impact. Through the Emerging Leaders Community (ELC), Malmstrom has been able to serve on three nonprofit boards. Additionally, he has led a nonprofit finance workshop.

He first learned about Spur Impact through Kristin Isaac, the Program Manager of the ELC. Considering his active involvement in the community with nonprofit organizations, Malmstrom thought this would be a great opportunity. The ELC was a way for him to deepen ties with the nonprofit world, especially since joining nonprofit boards is part of the program.

Malmstrom became a board member of the Caesar Rodney Rotary Club, Survivors of Abuse in Recovery (SOAR), and Association of Fundraising Professionals. “My experience was very positive. The boards are open to new ideas and want you to contribute. Overall, I found the boards to be welcoming and rewarding,” mentioned Malmstrom. To this day, he is still on all three boards.

This experience allowed Malmstrom to grow professionally and personally. The training received from the ELC gave him the confidence to walk into a board room and feel like he knew what he was talking about. It has allowed him to make the contributions he has so far. “I developed a wonderful feeling of satisfaction helping these organizations build and grow towards their goals,” added Malmstrom.

Not only did Malmstrom become a board member of three nonprofits, he hosts a nonprofit finance workshop. Once again, Kristin Isaac presented him with the opportunity to teach future ELC cohorts about finances and accounting. “I like to give back by educating. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with people,” articulated Malmstrom.
