Q: Can you introduce yourself?

A: I was the 2023-2024 President of the Junior League of Wilmington, DE. You can learn more about the organization here: https://www.jlwilmington.org/

Q: What is the best career advice you ever received?

A: Always be authentic and stay true to yourself.

Q: What compelled you to enter your field?

A: During undergrad, I focused primarily on broadcast journalism until my first business communications class my junior year. That class showed me that I could use my writing, website building and video skills to work in marketing or internal communications at a company. It was nice to realize that I didn't have to commit to the long hours that come with journalism.

Q: What’s one industry-specific thing you wish you knew when you started?

A: Now that I'm in internal communications and love it, I wish that I would've focused more on building my internal email campaign skills.

Q: What trends do you see dramatically influencing the work in your industry?

A: As younger generations continue to enter the workforce, there is a huge need for communication to be short and concise, especially as work technology transitions to social networking-like platforms. For example, companies are using technology like Teams and Viva Engage, which both have a social networking feel, to communicate with their colleagues.

Q: What’s a common myth about your industry/job?

A: People seem to view communications departments as order takers or flyer designers when in actuality there is a lot of strategy and planning that goes into communicating across a company, especially a national health system.
