Driving Career Growth and Community Impact Through SLN

Through the Spur Leaders Network, professionals across Delaware gain hands-on experience that supports career growth while creating meaningful impact in the nonprofit community.

Eric Evans, a Quality Analyst at Discover, is a former Spur Leaders Network (SLN) participant whose involvement with Spur Impact has played a key role in his professional and personal development. In his role at Discover, Eric works closely with business partners across multiple lines of business, including banking, technology, and community reinvestment—work that naturally led him to increased volunteerism and deeper engagement in the nonprofit sector.

Building Leadership Skills While Giving Back

Eric was drawn to board service as a way to expand his resume, stretch beyond his comfort zone, and build skills in networking, project management, and strategic planning, all while giving back to the community. Through Spur Impact, he has found opportunities to achieve these skills as well as take on meaningful leadership roles.

As his involvement continued, Eric became a co-chair committee member for the Spur Impact Leadership Summit (SILS)—an annual conference designed for emerging leaders to network, connect, and learn from inspiring speakers across sectors. SILS brings together professionals from across Delaware who are eager to develop their leadership capabilities and build lasting professional relationships.

SILS: A Launchpad for Connecting, Learning, Leading

Through his experience as a chair and SLN alum, Eric gained valuable tools that continue to enhance his work at Discover, expand his professional network statewide, and grow him as a confident leader within the Spur Impact community and beyond.

“Ever since I’ve first volunteered with Spur Impact and assisting with the Leadership Summit, I’ve been given more and more opportunities just by being noticed for the hard work I’ve done and as a result been offered roles like Emerging Leaders Training class and Executive Committee chair for the Spur Impact Leadership Summit”

The SLN cohort and SILS conference are ideal for both emerging and well-established professionals prepared to grow as leaders, build meaningful connections, and make a lasting impact in the nonprofit community.
