Dara McBride Steps into Role as Board Member of Opera Delaware

Dara McBride, senior marketing specialist at Epic Marketing, learned of Spur Impact after attending Mill Summit. She was aware of Spur Impact’s involvement with Delaware nonprofits, but did not realize how many amazing opportunities are offered. After Mill Summit, she stayed connected with Spur Impact via networking events and workshops. By following Spur Impact on social media and subscribing to the email list, she was able to keep up with all that was happening!

McBride’s current job, a creative marketing agency, works with clients in various industries. The arts and humanities industry peaked her interest and she began to wonder how she could get more experience within these fields. Additionally, she was looking for opportunities to grow her network. Encouraged by her job, McBride sought out opportunities to participate in workshops offered. “Professional development and continuing education is important to me. These opportunities can open doors to new opportunities in your career. The ELC was a way to bring interests together, get new skills and network.”

Being a part of the ELC helped McBride realize the opportunities that were available. “It opened my eyes to the possibility of being on a board. I think many of us want to make an impact and do something good with our time, but don’t know how. ELC is a way for you to learn how to do something impactful with your time,” mentioned McBride. “The training cohort helps nontraditional board members see themselves on a board. Prior to ELC, I didn’t think I’d be on a board at this stage of my life,” she continued. The training cohort helped her prepare for being a part of the board.

Since then, she has matched with Opera Delaware and is currently onboarding.
