A Look Back at 2022

There is never a dull moment in December; however, there is always time to take a moment and reflect on your successes for the year. And as we turn the calendar toward 2023, Spur Impact would like to take a moment and reflect.

Spur Impact’s mission to “spur impact” centers around three pillars: community impact, professional development, and organizational development.

2022 Spur Impact Highlights and Accomplishments

  • AFP-Brandywine recognized Spur Impact and United Way of Delaware as Nonprofits of the Year in connection with the Do More 24 Delaware giving day event.

  • DCRAC recognized Executive Director, Charlie Vincent as its Hon. James H. Sill Jr. CRA Leadership Award winner.

  • Spur Impact has secured grant funding for 2023 from major regional foundations, corporations, state and local departments, and community partners. A significant portion of the grants received through Spur Impact’s efforts go directly back into the community through Delaware’s Giving Day.

  • Our 6th annual Pursuit of Health & Wellness Expo & health fair in January 2022 helped jump start more than 300 people’s health journeys for the year. We also held a health focus virtual conference that provided personalized tips to more than 80 attendees.

  • In conjunction with the #MILLSUMMIT, we teamed up with AARP-DE to host #1 National bestselling author, host, speaker, and educator Anthony O’Neal on our podcast.

  • We hosted our annual Nine Innings of Networking job fairs this past summer at the Wilmington Blue Rocks!

  • In conjunction with Delaware Difference Makers, Spur Impact launched a new service called Spur Giving Network. More information to come soon!

Community Impact

Our Spur Giving initiative is centered around the importance of improving the culture of individual giving, and continues to have great impact statewide. The Delaware Gives platform now features profiles for more than half of the Delaware nonprofit sector. As an individualized online donation platform, each nonprofit can use the system throughout the year for their peer-to-peer/crowdfunding campaigns, events, and general donations.

As in 2020 and 2021, our technology and efforts helped power the Do More 24 Delaware 2022 giving day campaign, which raised more than $2.6 million from 12,000+ donors for 452 nonprofits serving Delaware over 24 hours this past March. We look forward to helping raise even more money from more donors when the giving day returns on March 2-3, 2023. (Register your favorite nonprofit today!)

Professional Development

Our Spur Leadership initiative has also blossomed, culminating with the #MILLSUMMIT hybrid event in August. This year's Summit was a hybrid event with the in-person component taking place at the Queen in Wilmington, drawing more than 225 people each of the hybrid days. We had hundreds of others stream in virtually from 30 states and countries from Brazil to Germany to listen to our more than 30 sessions and 80 speakers. We also recognized 11 difference makers as part of our annual Impact Awards, which took place at our first #MILLSUMMIT Leadership Dinner.

The planning for the 2023 #MILLSUMMIT is well underway. More information to come about the theme and keynotes will be announced soon. Save the date for August 8-10, 2023 and hopefully you will be able to join us in person for the hybrid event of the year.

Organizational Development

In 2023, we are planning to launch a new aspect of the Spur Leadership initiative (tentatively called the Emerging Leaders Council or ELC). Through the ELC program, we will better bridge the efforts between the #MILLSUMMIT and Delaware Gives initiatives and connect and train those emerging leaders looking to make a bigger impact through community and board service with organizations that can benefit from their expertise. More to come on that soon as well!

We are excited for what we accomplished over the past year and looking forward to how much bigger of an impact we can make in 2023!

If you are interested in helping or getting involved with any of our events in 2023 and haven't already reached out, please let us know and we'll be glad to help you find a way to help.
